nora systems, Inc. receives Volunteer Program Champion Award from Volunteer NH

Salem, NH (November 2, 2016) – nora systems, Inc. received the Volunteer Program Champion Award at the 2016 Spirit of NH Awards Ceremony on November 1. The award, which is presented each year by Volunteer NH, recognizes businesses that demonstrate community involvement by encouraging employee volunteerism, participating in community service events and/or providing pro-bono assistance.

Brenda Guggisberg, executive director of The Upper Room, nominated nora for the award. nora and its employees have been donating time and resources to the nonprofit family resource center during the last five years. The Upper Room provides education, support and resouces to individuals and families throughout southern New Hampshire, with the goal of improving the lives of those in need through a variety of programs and services.

“The organization’s mission and goals closely align with nora’s social responsiblity initiative, making it a perfect fit for our company and its employees,” said Heidi Anderson, human resource manager at nora. “It has been a joy for us to support The Upper Room since moving our corporate headquarters to New Hampshire, and we look forward to additional opportunities to volunteer our services for this wonderful cause.”

nora and its employees originally volunteered their time to renovate a frequently used multi-purpose area in The Upper Room’s facility, donating flooring, paint, wall and window accessories and painting and making minor repairs. Since then, they have taken an active role in a variety of activities at the center, including the delivery of Thanksgiving turkeys and side dishes to families in need, donation and distribuion of coats, hats and gloves, a food drive, improvements to the yard and front entrance, phone calls to solicit donations, assembling packets for a direct mail campaign, help with the annual ice cream social and stuffing backpacks with school supplies, which were distributed at the annual Gear for Grades event, ensuring children would return to school with the supplies they needed and could otherwise not afford.

nora and nora employees have also made contributions to several other organizations, including the New Hampshire Food Bank, Computer Technology Assistance Corps (CTAC), Salem High School, Soles4Souls and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

“At nora, we encourage our employees to be leaders in the community and promote an environment that supports volunteerism and teamwork,” said Anderson. “This award demonstrates that our employees are taking volunteerism to heart and as they do, making a significant and positive contribution to the communities where we live and work.”
