Recycling

nora is pursuing several projects for the use of recycled content in our products.

These projects are collaborations with other industries or our suppliers. Alternatively, we use waste materials from our own production facilities and include them in our new products.

Best practice:

norament 975 LL

norament 975 LL is a two-layered product that can be laid loose and is removable. This product uses post-production recycled content (sanding dust) from our nora production facilities and recycled minerals from our suppliers. The result is a recycled content of 8 %.

norament 992

norament 992 is a product whose second layer contains recycled content from our nora production facilities. We collect the sanding dust from our production processes, use leftover kneading residues and add chips from our production facilities. We also add recycled mineral fillers from our suppliers. This results in a recycled content of at least 11 % (depending on the availability of production residues at nora).

norament 926 pado

The inclusion of recycled materials can also serve as a design element for floor coverings, as the example of norament 926 pado shows. Here, we use a range of coloured chips that are made using punching scraps from our production facilities.

noracare

With our innovative noracare product we have had a fully recyclable floor covering in our portfolio since 2021.

noraplan acoustic

noraplan acoustic is a special product that uses acoustic foam from recycled materials. The acoustic foam is made using 82 % recycled content from the mattress industry and sanding dust from nora’s production facilities. This results in a total recycled content of 29 % for noraplan acoustic.

Recycling & Reuse

One objective of our processes is to minimize the burden of pollution on people and the environment as much as possible. For example, production leftovers are recycled, packaging materials are selected from an environmental standpoint, and floor coverings that are surplus to requirements are reused.

Recycling practices that ease the burden and support our resource reduction program

We have adopted aggressive recycling measures to bring nora’s total manufacturing substance recycling to 100 % through multiple recycling channels . They are granulated and become part of the raw material base of new rubber flooring products as high-quality natural fillers and decorative color speckles.

The recycling of installation scraps and old nora floor coverings is possible in a number of ways:

Material Recycling
nora rubber flooring can be recycled by specialty firms for use as landing mats, industrial or stable mats and coverings for sports areas.
Thermal Recycling
nora floor coverings can be used as substitute fuel instead of gas or oil in thermal power stations, where the energy contained in the combustible material is recovered.
Complete Material/Thermal Recycling
Energy recovery in the cement industry through thermal recycling. The fillers remain in the cement clinker because of their advantageous composition.

Construction Waste Take-Back Program

nora's Construction Waste Take-Back Program makes it possible to return waste and scrap material from new installations of nora flooring. We can take them away and make sure they get reused or recycled the right way. It can also be used to generate energy.

Recyclable Packaging

nora floor coverings are available in rolls or tiles. Tiles can be supplied either loose or in cardboard boxes (that are manufactured from waste paper and are 100 % recyclable) or on wooden pallets as desired.
Rolled goods from nora are supplied on hard paper cores made of recycled cardboard - even the secondary packaging of the rolls is made of recyclable paper. Each roll is supplied on wooden pallets that are sealed in recyclable, environmentally-friendly polyethylene film.
The protective film of nora nTx can be collected during the installation and be recycled via the local recycling system.
