Guangzhou Respiratory Center: Proven flooring solutions for a medical centre

nora floor coverings facilitate thorough hygiene and offer key technical advantages

Guangzhou Respiratory Center opened in mid-2021. The multi-purpose medical facility covers an area of 217,158 square metres, has 1,200 beds and is divided into several specialist units, including laboratories, a scientific research facility and a two-storey science communication centre. The facility has its sights set on becoming a global leader in academic research, clinical treatment, talent development and scientific innovation in the field of respiratory diseases.

The corona pandemic highlighted the importance of hygiene and efficient hygiene management including the selection of building materials and floor coverings. It is essential that the flooring can be easily, efficiently cleaned and thoroughly disinfected. To meet these challenges, the architects and building contractors who worked on the centre chose rubber floor coverings by nora. “nora flooring is widely used in the healthcare sector in China, and nora by Interface is considered a high-quality brand for resilient floor coverings throughout the world”, says Liu Jun, an architect at the Guangzhou Urban Planning Survey and Design Survey Research Institute. “nora products not only look great, they are also durable, very stain-resistant and easy to clean efficiently.”

Top quality standards go for flooring too

Guangzhou Respiratory Center treats patients with acute and chronic diseases according to the highest quality standards. These illnesses range from asthma to pneumonia and COPD. The planning team wanted to offer both the best possible medical care and treatment rooms with a pleasant design. This includes an inviting ambience, which is provided by the selected norament 926 grano and noraplan lona floors in elegant shades of grey and beige.

Like all nora floorings, norament 926 grano and noraplan lona are also low-emission and free of phthalate plasticizers, so they contribute to good indoor air quality. This is confirmed by numerous international accreditations, including the Indoor Air Comfort Gold certificate.

Well-equipped for patient flow

nora floor coverings were chosen not only for their colour, but also their robust nature and durability: their extremely hard-wearing, dense surface can withstand even large numbers of visitors. “We expect a lot of patients at the new health centre in Guangzhou every day”, says Liu. “I’m convinced that the rubber flooring will easily stand up to the flow of patients and that it will still look good after a long period of use.”

Good acoustics and safety for patients and staff

In addition to the properties mentioned above, nora flooring also offers acoustic advantages. As rubber’s characteristic elastic surface dampens any noise caused by shoe heels or falling objects, nora rubber floorings contribute to a pleasant environment. nora floor coverings also offer considerable ergonomic benefits and a non-slip surface for safety.
