For Bettina Haffelder, Vice President of the nora DACH region, this is another step towards sustainability for nora systems: "The impact that our products have on the environment is important to us and we are working to further reduce the CO₂ footprint of nora systems. In doing so, we can now benefit from the experience that Interface has had on a global scale." In order to reduce CO₂ emissions, a roadmap with targets was defined. "We are working on different methods," Haffelder continued. Supporting emission reduction projects is a first, but by no means the last, step in the journey to more sustainability.
Sustainability, environmental protection and healthy living have long been key elements of the corporate focus at nora systems. This is confirmed by the quantity of certifications awarded by authorities and associations. In 1996, the company became the first manufacturer of elastic floor coverings in the world to be certified to the ISO 14001 standard for its environmental management system. nora floor coverings contain no harmful plasticisers or halogens. In 2006, our floors were the first resilient floor coverings ever to be awarded the Blue Angel eco label. Furthermore, nora systems is a founding member of the German Sustainable Building Council (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen e.V. – DGNB). In early 2011, the company became the first manufacturer of elastic floor coverings to meet the Environmental Product Declaration (EPDs) for its products in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14025. EPDs are used to evaluate the sustainability of products. Another step was taken in 2018: From 2018 onwards, nora systems will draw all their power requirements from renewable sources. With this change, the company has committed to eco-friendly energy production and energy consumption and is making a valuable contribution to protecting the environment and climate.*
