Floor coverings made by nora systems from Weinheim will feature at nine out of 12 match venues
Weinheim, June 2018 – The time has almost come: the 2018 World Cup in Russia kicks off in mid-June. For a period of four weeks from that moment onwards, soccer fans' attention will be focused on the grass in the stadiums. Generally speaking, soccer fans the world over will not actually set foot on the pitch itself of course. But numerous spectators in the stadiums will get to walk on a different surface – a rubber one that is "Made in Germany": nora systems floor coverings have been installed inside nine of the 12 stadiums in total. According to the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce, nora systems is just one 50 German companies involved in the stadium planning and fitting operations, in this case accounting for a surface area of some 26,500 square metres.
From the Baltic to the Urals – fans will walk on rubber floor coverings
The venues for the 64 games of this year's World Cup were announced as long ago as September 2012. Since then, nine stadiums have been built from scratch while another three have been upgraded to accommodate this major sporting event. The floors made by nora systems were applied at a wide range of locations. To be specific: the floor coverings are to be found in entrance areas, hallways, staircases, changing rooms and massage rooms – from the westernmost match venue of Kaliningrad on the Baltic Sea to St. Petersburg, Moscow, Rostov, Sochi, Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd and Ekaterinburg east of the Ural Mountains. The most frequently used nora product for the 2018 World Cup is the round pastille. This design classic was installed in various formats and colours at several different stadiums.
A long-lasting, resilient floor covering helps things run smoothly
There are a diverse range of different areas inside the match venues which have very specific requirements in terms of flooring. One of the main properties in demand in all areas was resilience. "Our floor coverings are used repeatedly at major international sporting events because the dense surface makes them extremely resilient, enabling them to easily withstand the most extreme exposure – as will be the case with the crowds of spectators at the World Cup," explains Andreas Mueller, CEO of nora systems. The stadiums were issued their operating permits at the end of April, so they are all ready and waiting – the scene is set for the 2018 World Cup kick-off. The final takes place at Luzhniki Stadium on 15 July. And the winners will be celebrating on floor coverings made by nora systems – installed in the Luzhniki changing rooms, corridors and entrance area.
