Bound by art, the Norwich Free Academy used nora to accent the Slater Memorial Building

The Norwich Free Academy (NFA) is a semi-private high school that serves Norwich, CT, and seven surrounding towns. Steeped in rich tradition, NFA recently built a new atrium that serves as a connection and common space for four contiguous areas, which include the Converse Art Gallery, Norton Gym, Alumni Gym, and most notably, the Slater Memorial Museum – which dates back to 1878.

Key Advantages

  • Enhanced durability to endure visitors’ foot traffic
  • Low-maintenance flooring to avoid disruptions

Project Considerations

Knowing they needed durable flooring to withstand heavy foot traffic throughout the Slater Memorial Building atrium, the Norwich Free Academy tested nora flooring in the building’s basement. The school also considered polished concrete for its look, but had concerns about the material’s maintenance requirements and long-term performance.

The enhanced durability and sophisticated look of norament serra sold the school on their choice for the new atrium. The floor’s dense, yet forgiving surface and no-wax features suit the atrium well, standing up to the steady influx of visitors and enabling school staff to efficiently maintain the atrium without disrupting day-to-day operations.
