Offices of Dr. Jackson, DDS
Waves of Color Splash Across Orthodontics Facility
The offices of Dr. Joseph C. Jackson, DDS, have all the trappings of an orthodontics practice – comfortable chairs, patient stations, sinks and cabinets, shiny instruments and computers. But that’s where the similarity to other orthodontics offices ends. Patients who walk into Dr. Jackson’s suite enter a uniquely designed space where fish swim between glass dividers and waves splash across the floor.
As Dr. Jackson made plans to move into the suite of offices in Largo, FL, he hired designer Tony Marsh, ASID, to implement a water, sand and fish motif.
The results are extraordinary. From the waiting area, where fish swim underfoot and across wall hangings, to treatment stations, where colorful nora flooring, matching patient chairs and stained glass dividers stimulate the senses, Dr. Jackson’s office is awash in colors and textures that set it apart from other orthodontic facilities.
Marsh incorporated 4,000 square feet of nora rubber flooring’s norament 825 round pastille in his design. “I thought the norament product would be ideal for this project and support the theme nicely,” recalled Marsh. “It offered a great color line, interesting texture and the promise of easy maintenance.”
Each of the eight colors of norament flooring that Marsh selected is cut in a wavelike pattern and rolls across the office to a patient chair of the same color.
“The installer took great care to match the raised pastilles of one color floor to those of the adjacent wave,” Marsh said. “It all works together and looks just great.”
Dividers between each chair alternate between a contemporary stained glass underwater mural and glass block. “We cut two pieces of glass block in a big wave pattern that echoes the floor,” explained Marsh, “and then we put glass fish and sea life between the two pieces for a fun, underwater look.”
Six years after they moved in, Dr. Jackson and his wife Monique are still thrilled with the results. “The floor is beautiful to look at, easy to keep clean and provides a cushy support for our employees while they work,” said Mrs. Jackson. It also absorbs sound well. When I look at it, it’s hard to believe the floor is six years old. That’s how great it looks.”
