nora® Stairwell Margins for New Buildings
and Reconstruction Projects
Good News for Stairwells

Treppenfries
Weinheim, April 2001 - Stairwells belong to those places which are used by many people almost without any interruption. The floorcoverings on the steps and landings are thus subjected to a lot of strain. The rubber floorcoverings of the company of Freudenberg Bausysteme KG offer an attractive solution both from the economic and the design point of view. The range of floorcoverings is complemented among others with the nora® staircase margins: These margins are safe and easy to install, and stairs as well as corridors can be designed impressively and representatively. In particular for reconstruction of buildings, the nora® staircase margins offer surprising and attractive options.

Being used as transport and connection paths, stairwells are the arteries of a building. They are thus frequented very often, the wear is correspondingly heavy - above all the wear of the floorcovering. Thanks to their extreme durability, resistance to cigarette burns, excellent footfall sound absorption, excellent anti-slip properties, and - not forgetting - easy and cost-effective cleaning, the rubber floorcoverings norament® and noraplan® are the ideal solutions for these high demands. With more than 200 colours, numerous designs and surface options, planners and architects have an almost unlimited scope for creative design. The nora® staircase margins, too, contribute to this: With these margins, the appearance can be complemented and new accentuation options can be provided.

The Freudenberg Bausysteme KG staircase margins are suitable for both wall and banister sides of staircases. They can also be used to design continuous margins in corridors and rooms and they may even be used as decorative skirting. The nora® staircase margins is available in a length of 60 centimetres, the 12 millimetres strong margin elements also consist of rubber and are matched to the floorcoverings. Thanks to solvent-free dispersion adhesives, the installation of staircase margins and floorcoverings is easy, eco-compatible, and not detrimental to health. The individual margin elements can also be installed using the dry tape nora® Profix. These special installation tapes guarantee use without any smell and the staircases can be stepped on immediately after installation.

Efficient reconstruction solution

When reconstructing building - above all concrete buildings in so-called slab-type construction -, apart from the design aspect, nora® staircase margins offer a surprising solution for a particular difficult problem. In order to prevent sound transmission from staircases into residential rooms, the stair railings and landings were often not joined to the walls. The resulting gaps between the staircase and walls were up to now an almost unsolvable problem when carrying out reconstruction measures. The solution developed by Freudenberg and specialist floorcovering installation firms is surprisingly simple, however, very effective: Without any sub-filling, the nora® staircase margins are installed across the gaps of up to 50 millimetres and thus closed safely. Thus, a frequent cause for accidents is eliminated, sound transmission is avoided, and the noise level is reduced considerably.
