Sports and Multi-Purpose Halls

Stringent requirements are posed for floorcoverings in sports and multi-purpose halls with regard to easy and cost-efficient cleaning. The recommendations given below are based on our general feedback from actual users. If you intend to use cleaning methods deviating from these instructions and if special working conditions are involved, you must perform sufficient in-house tests of your own to ascertain whether the cleaning measures, agents and machines concerned are able to meet the special requirements involved. You should not use any hard coating on noraplan® floorings! Any products and process used must not have an adverse effect on the floorcovering and the sliding friction coefficient (tested to DIN 18 032, part 2).

Initial cleaning

The joints of noraplan® floorings installed in sports halls (playing surface) must be sealed. Initial cleaning is carried out after joint-sealing. Remove any coarse dirt, using brushing devices, brushing machines, or by vacuum-cleaning. This must be followed by wet cleaning, with a recommended cleaning agent (see cleaning agent table) added to the water.

Work steps:

Give the flooring an initial cleaning with a single-disc cleaning machine using a red pad plus a suitable cleaning agent (see cleaning agent table).

Choose the correct mixing ratio, as specified by the cleaning agent.

Use a single-disc cleaning machine to distribute the cleaning solution. After allowing for a soaking period of about 15 minutes, clean intensively with the single-disc cleaning machine. Particular care must be taken to ensure the cleaning solution is not allowed to dry.

Mop up the dirty liquid with an aqua-vacuum-cleaner or an automatic cleaning machine.

Wipe again with clear water until all dirt and cleaning-agent residues have been removed from the floorcovering.

Initial polishing

Use a manual wipe method to evenly apply a suitable care/protection product (see table of cleaning agents) at increased concentration according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Do not polish the protective film!

Routine cleaning

The noraplan® mega, noraplan® classic and noraplan® eco floorcoverings satisfy the sliding friction coefficient to DIN 18 032, Part 2. To comply with this value on a lasting basis, routine cleaning must be carried out once a day for sports-functional, visual and hygienic requirements, if the hall is actually in use. Since the requirements posed for slip behaviour will vary within tight tolerances, depending on the type of sport involved, it is essential that the cleaning agent, its concentration, and the cleaning intervals, be adapted to suit the requirements and conditions applying in each particular case. In multi-purpose halls, it may be necessary to apply various polishing treatments.

If a dust-laying routine is performed at regular intervals, this will reduce the risk of slipping (also referred to as the roller-skate effect), thus ensuring safe sport conditions. On the other hand, premature wear on the joints was observed when people were for lengthy periods exercising on floors that were too rough.

a) Automated cleaning:

A wash polish/automatic cleaning agent must be added to the water (see enclosed list); for concentrations, follow the manufacturer's instructions in each case.

b) Manual cleaning:

For daily cleaning, you can use a damp-wiping device adding a wash polish to the water; for mixing ratios, follow the manufacturer's instructions in each case. Gauze cloths are suitable for dust-laying.

Intermediate cleaning

This cleaning routine is performed in dependence on the degree of soiling, and in multi-purpose halls in particular after major events in each case. The methods of application and work steps correspond to those given above for initial cleaning with initial polishing.
