What does nora systems do with the production scraps?

The reuse of production scraps such as web flashes and abrasive dust from nora® rubber floorcoverings has been going on for quite some time. They are granulated and become part of the raw material base of various nora® products as high-quality fillers and partly as moulding compounds for designer decorations.

What happens with the cuttings from laying and with removed nora® floorcoverings?

There are various ways of disposing of laying cuttings and removed floorcoverings:

1. Material recycling
Granulated rubber floorcoverings are recycled by specialist firms for use in landing mats, industrial or stable mats and coverings for sports areas.

2. Thermal recycling
In principle possible as a substitute fuel instead of gas or oil in thermal stations where the energy contained in the combustible material is recovered.

3. Complete material/thermal recycling
Energy recovery in the cement industry through thermal recycling. Because of their advantageous composition, the filler remains in the cement clinker.

4. Disposal in landfill sites
Old nora® rubber floorcoverings do not contain any plasticizers (phthalate) and halogens (e.g. chlorine). These substances cannot therefore enter the ground water when deposited. nora® floorcoverings can be dumped easily. This is based on the current regulations in force at the time of going to press. There may be regional differences. Our statement is limited to floorcoverings to which no adhesives or floor residues adhere.

What about the environmental compatibility of the packaging material?

nora® floorcoverings are available in rolls or tiles. Following customer specifications, the tiles can be supplied either loose or in cardboard boxes on pallets. Only wooden pallets are used, and these are returned and reused by nora systems within the scope of a European recycling programme. The cardboard boxes are manufactured from waste paper and are 100% recyclable.

The sheeting is rolled on hard paper cores made of recycled cardboard. The paper cores are also returned and reused. Even the secondary packaging of the rolls is made of recyclable paper. Each roll is positioned vertically on wooden pallets and sealed in environmentally compatible and recyclable polyethylene film.
