What are nora® floorcoverings made of?

High-quality industrial and natural rubber qualities are the basis of nora® rubber floorcoverings.

These are supplemented by raw mineral materials extracted from natural deposits and by environmentally compatible colour pigments.

Production scraps are internally recycled as valuable substances and returned to the production process.

Which quality standards do we impose?

One of the most important standards is that our nora® floorcoverings are made of rubber and are free of PVC, plasticizers (phthalates), and halogens (e.g. chlorine). Floorcoverings that do not contain any PVC guarantee that no hydrochloric gas is produced in the event of fire, and consequently, no corrosive hydrochloric acid results from contact with water used to extinguish the fire. In addition, no toxic, halogenated dioxins and furans are produced.

We also make comprehensive demands on the qualities of rubber used which can only be met by high-performance suppliers.
We use only the highest grade and purest quality of natural rubber in our floorcoverings to guarantee a consistent quality level despite natural differences. We request our suppliers to be certified according to the international standards ISO 9000 et seq. and ISO 14001. The raw material tests are supplemented by regular tests performed by an independent institute.

The formulations for our nora® floorcoverings are constantly optimised by our research and development to obtain the highest quality and a maximum level of environmental compatibility.

For years we have been using residue abrasive dusts and web flashes from our production process as valuable substances for our production. Recycling has been standard procedure in our production for an equal amount of time. With norament® 945 grano and norament® 992, we offer floorcoverings with a high percentage of recycled matter in our assortment up to 75 %.

Where does the raw material come from?

Natural rubber is a renewable raw material extracted from the sap of the tropical rubber plant (Helvea brasiliensis) and supplied as compression moulded bales of rubber.

Industrial rubber is obtained by the polymerisation of certain refinery products of crude oil. Rubbers with special properties can be manufactured in specific processes.

These tailor-made types of rubber can be formulated into useful rubber compounds by adding high-quality minerals from natural sources and other components.
