Recycling, disposal and packaging

What are nora systems doing with production scraps?

Production scraps such as punch burrs and abrasive dust from nora® rubber floorcoverings have been reused for a long time. They are granulated and become part of the raw material basis of different nora® products. Then they are used as high-quality filling materials and partly as designer decoration granulates.

What happens to laying cuttings and removed nora® floorcoverings?

There are various ways of dispose of laying cuttings and removing floorcoverings:

1. Acceptance by nora systems
Laying cuttings from newly installed and removed, used nora® floorcoverings that do not bear larger adhesions of levelling compound and screed can be taken back by nora systems and lead to further utilisation.

2. Material recycling
Granulated rubber floorcoverings are recycled by specialist companies for use in landing mats, industrial or stable mats and coverings for sports areas.

3. Thermal recycling
In principle it can be used as substitute fuel instead of gas or oil in thermal power plants whereby the embedded energy of the material is used.

4. Complete material/thermal recycling
Energy recovery in the cement industry through thermal recycling. Due to their favourable composition the filler remains within the cement clinkers.

5. Disposal on landfills
Removed nora® rubber floorcoverings are free of plasticizers (phthalates) und halogens (e.g. chlorine). Therefore, these materials cannot escape to the ground water on disposal. nora® floorcoverings can be disposed of in landfills. These can be regionally varying. This statement is limited to floorcoverings without adhesions of adhesives and flooring residues.

What about environmental compatibility of the packaging material?

nora® floorcoverings are available in rolls or tiles. According to the customer's specifications, the tiles can be supplied either loose or in cardboard boxes on pallets. Only wooden pallets are used, and these are returned and reused by nora systems within the scope of the European Recycling programme. The cardboard boxes are made from waste paper and can be recycled at 100%.
The sheeting is rolled on cardboard cores made of recycled cardboard. The cardboard cores are also taken back and reused. Even the secondary packaging of the rolls is made of recyclable paper. Each roll is positioned vertically on wooden pallets and sealed in environmentally compatible and recyclable polyethylene film.
