Skirtings, skirting angles

Skirtings, skirting angles S 3000, SI 7001, SA 7002

nora® profiles are made of rubber.

Contact or dispersion adhesive may be used for fixing the nora® profiles (after prior consultation with the adhesive manufacturers concerned).

The subfloor

The subfloor must be dry. Porous, sanding or dusty subfloors are treated with commercially available primer. Uneven or excessively rough subfloors either at the wall or the floor are levelled and smoothed with commercially available levelling or smoothing compound.

If fixing with nora® Profix, the structure of the wall must be less than 0,6 mm, otherwise please level the wallsurface.

Please follow the recommendations of the manufacturers of primers, levelling compounds and adhesives.

At the time of installation and of adhesive bonding, the subfloor temperature must be not less than 15 °C.

General remarks

Mitre box for right-angled cuts

The mitre box facilitates the cutting of wall skirtings to match the associated skirting angles.

Before installation is commenced, the height of the skirting and the base width of the profiles are marked by a chalk line.

This will ensure that during fixing the skirting angles can be fitted in alignment with the skirtings. Install the skirting angles first and then the skirtings.

Then the skirtings are cut to size by means of the mitre box.

The double-box mitre box is adapted to the two-legged profiles and encloses the profile when it is being cut. This permits exact angle cuts.

The opened mitre box is put against the skirting angles that have already been fixed. Figure 1.

Then the skirting is placed into the mitre box and the mitre box is closed.
Figure 2.

As straight blade is used to half-cut along the edge of the skirting; after removing the mitre box, the protruding part is cut off. Figure 3.

This will produce neat connections between skirtings angles and skirtings. Figure 4.

Then the skirting is fixed and the angle cut is made at the other end.

For this purpose, adhesive is applied afterwards to the wall area at approx. 50 cm from where the skirting angles are positioned, in order to avoid adhesion before the angle has been cut.

If the joints between skirting angles and skirtings are sealed subsequently, the mitre box is moved back approx. 2 mm at the actual joint to give the desired joint width.

The joints can only be sealed with nora® TH two-component joint sealing compound. At the time of installation, nora® profiles must have the same temperature as the subfloor. In winter, therefore, nora® profiles have to be stored for some days at installation temperature.

Installation and fixing

  1. Siga Goman/nora® Profix
    Only for nora® skirtings S 1008 U, S 1023 U, S 3003, skirting angles SA 7002, SI 7001 and nora® stair margin

To achieve a good bonding please clean the reverse side carefully with a damp cloth. Immediately after installation fix it in place by tapping it with a rubber mallet.

  2. Contact adhesive
The adhesive is applied abundantly with a brush to the subfloor and to the back of the profile. (It is not necessary to sand the back of the profile.)

Airing time will depend on the temperature and humidity and can be checked by means of the touch test. The adhesive must still be sticky without being tacky.

The adhesive film will dry faster on rubber profiles than on PVC profiles.

Immediately after being positioned, the profile is carefully pressed down, and perhaps hammered into place (mallet).

Special hints:

The connection joints of stair nosing, stair angles, skirtings and skirting angles can be sealed with the nora® TH two-component joint sealing compound.

There may be minor colour deviations with skirtings S 3003, with skirting angles 7002, 7001.
