As per DIN EN 12 199 "Elastic floorcoverings - Homogeneous
and heterogeneous profiled elastomer floorcoverings".
Reaction adhesive
-
Experience has shown that it is best to cover the whole room or larger subdivided areas with loose tiles first, and then cut the border tiles, tiles for door openings, pipe apertures, etc. Make sure the arrows on the back are all pointing in the same direction.
Then the rows of tiles are turned over and fixed. This method has the advantage of avoiding crooked joints or shifting of joints, because the tiles positioned on the floor serve as a stop for the tiles still to be installed.
-
Suitable adhesives are reaction adhesives based on polyurethane PUR or epoxy resin EP.
On mastic asphalt, only polyurethane PUR may be used.
Always wear protective gloves.
-
Mix the two adhesive components thoroughly until free of streaks. Good mixing is of particular importance at the walls and the bottom of the container.
-
The adhesive consumption depends on the nature of the subfloor concerned. You must use sufficient adhesive to ensure that the entire back of the floorcovering is completely covered with adhesive. This corresponds to an adhesive volume of 300 - 400 cm³. The quantity required depends on the specific gravity of the adhesives involved.
Example:
consumption: 350 cm³/m² = 0.35 l/m²
adhesive's specific gravity: 1400 g/l
0.35 l/m² x 1400 g/l = 490 g/m²
Apply this adhesive quantity to the entire surface of the subfloor with a serrated blade (e.g. TKB A2 or recommended serration by the manufacturer).
 TKB A2
Replace worn serrated blades in good time.
If excessive amounts of adhesive are applied, the floorcovering will be "floating" in its adhesive bed, which may lead to adhesive oozing out at the tile joints and to permanent indentations (e.g. footprints) in the floorcovering or in the adhesive bed.
-
Install the tiles immediately after the adhesive has been applied, and press them down into position both longitudinally and transversely with a heavy iron roller (approx. 50 kg) on the entire surface. This procedure has to be repeated after a while, depending on the temperature involved.
Counterbend projecting edges and corners, and press them down again. Hollows or similar must be weighted down until the adhesive has properly bonded.
-
Any adhesive residues on the flooring surface must be removed immediately with nora® liquid wax.
-
During the installation and adhesive bonding period, norament® must be protected against temperature fluctuations, e.g. as a result of direct sunlight.
Wet or damp cleaning may only be carried out after the adhesive has bonded, i.e. after approx. 48 hours.
Dispersion adhesive
Adhesive manufacturers currently recommend the use of dispersion adhesives for fixing norament® with a smooth, sanded back. The exception to this rule are all norament® special qualities.
Please consult the adhesive manufacturer.
Restrictions and hints:
To avoid faulty workmanship, please pay special attention to the following points:
-
During the installation and for a period of not less than 48 hours after installation, norament® must be protected against extreme heat (e.g. as a result of direct sunlight) when windows reach down to the floor.
-
Dispersion adhesives must not be used for fixing norament® in areas which are going to be subjected to heavy traffic and fork lift truck loading, for example.
Nor may dispersion adhesives be used for buildings with relatively high water carry-in (entrance areas) or for damp rooms.
-
norament® flooring tiles must have been climatically conditioned before starting installation. This means that they must have the same temperatures as the subfloor, which must not be less than 15 °C.
When using dispersion adhesives, too, we urgently recommend spreading the dry norament® tiles in the room or subdivided area scheduled for flooring installation and to cut the tiles to size prior to fixing as this ensures precise advance climatic conditioning of the norament® tiles.
The use of dispersion adhesives always requires an absorbent subfloor. This means that subfloors with limited absorbency or non-absorbent subfloors (e.g. mastic asphalt) must always be levelled with a smoothing compound (minimum layer thickness: 2.0 mm).
Depending on the subfloor situation involved, you may use serrated blade A2 or B1 for fixing norament® with dispersion adhesive.

Embedding time:
Sometimes, it is difficult to accurately assess the precise point in time for embedding during practical work. It is therefore very important on no account to exceed the adhesive's open time, i.e. it is absolutely essential to embed the flooring while the adhesive is still fresh. Check on the flooring's back to ascertain whether the adhesive has been properly transferred.
If the adhesive is tacky when you dip your finger into it, this indicates that a critical point has already been reached and that it is frequently no longer able to properly wet the flooring's back.
Please also follow the supplementary instructions provided by the adhesive manufacturers.
Special hints
-
The flooring seams can be sealed with nora® joint sealing compound.
-
Castor-wheeled office chairs must be equipped with castors
with soft rolling tracks (in accordance with DIN EN 12 529,
type W). If the floorcovering will be subjected to castor-
wheeled traffic, the screed and the process materials used
(e.g. levelling compound, adhesive) must be suitable for
castor-wheeled traffic.
-
If installed on screeds with underfloor heating, please follow
the instructions given under Important notes / General remarks - 10. screed with underfloor heating.
In addition, only adhesives with the appropriate temperature-
resistant properties may be used.
-
norament® flooring, fixed, does not replace sealings as per
DIN 18 195 building sealings.
- norament® 992 (9 mm) cannot be joint-sealed in areas where ice-skates are used, because of
its high degree of elasticity.
Jump-in areas (access) in ice rinks
For these areas we offer a perfect solution with rubber metal
elements. These elements are installed first. They are
mounted with screws on the subfloor. Then, the adjoining
boards are cut to size and glued on. In order to guarantee
easy replacement, the edges of the rubber metal elements
are to be protected with tape against contact with the ad-hesive.
Thus, worn boards can be replaced easily and
quickly.
- When installing partial surfaces, it has to be ensured that
no production residues get on the surfaces to be installed
or the back of the covering.
-
norament® 986 cara tiles are made through a unique production process. Differences in design and colour, also within the same batch of production, create the aesthetic character of the product.
