- Suitable subfloors:
Stairs made of wood, stone, screed (primed), metal as well as other hard and stable subfloors.
- Preparing the subfloor:
The subfloor must be free of grease and dust, dry as well as plane and slip-resistant. Prime the subfloor (dust bonding). Country-specific standards (DIN, OE standard, SIA, BS etc.) governing the installation of rubber floorings and manufacturers' data shall be applicable.
The front edge of the stair nosing must be straight and match the shape of the profile involved. Any broken or non perpendicular edges must be corrected and levelled using repair angles. Levelling and/or smoothing compounds, customary in trade, should be used for levelling purposes. Dusty and/or porous subfloors must be primed.
The subfloor must have a minimum temperature of 15 °C during installation.
- Fixing
a. Applying SIGA-Stepform:
SIGA-Stepform 240 must be applied all over the surface and pressed into place by starting with the first riser, the protruding strip being laid over the tread. Place the following strip on to the tread in such a way that no gaps will arise. The strip may be overlapped, when doing so.
Hint: Wet your knife and hands with water to facilitate the cutting of SIGA-Stepform 240 to size.
b. Cutting T 5044 stair nosing to size:
The nora® flooring to be installed should be glued to the lowest tread section, and the first T 5044 stair nosing adapted accordingly.
On straight stairs, the width of the stairs should be measured, and the T 5044 stair nosing cut to size using a profile cutter or an installation knife.
On winding stairs, the angle of the wall-oriented front edge of the stairs should be gauged using a bevel, and projected to the T 5044 stair nosing.
Measure the length of the stairs, and transfer to the T 5044 stair nosing. Gauge the angle of the opposite side using a bevel, and transcribe it to the longitudinal marking on the profile. Cut to size by means of a profile cutter or installation knife.
Place T 5044 stair nosing and check for proper seating.
c. Fixing T 5044 stair nosing:
Moisten and clean T 5044 stair nosing gluing surface (dilution).
Tear off approx. 10 cm of release paper from SIGA-Stepform 240 on the lowest tread, and fold back. Cut the T 5044 stair nosing to size, bring it into place and knock using a rubber mallet.
d. Cutting nora® flooring to size
On straight stairs, measure the width as well as the development (tread, plus risers), and cut the flooring to size.
On winding stairs, the tread base should be measured using a stair gauge, and the measuring points transferred to the floorcovering. Wrapping paper templates may also be made as an alternative.
e. Fixing nora® flooring:
Cut a section of flooring to size and insert it into the lip of the T 5044 stair nosing.
Remove the remaining release paper down to the tread/riser transition area, lay the floorcovering and rub it into place.
Remove the release paper from the riser section, lay the floorcovering and rub it into place.
Cut off the protruding flooring flush with the tread.
Cut the next T 5044 stair nosing and fix.
If these operations are performed in a technically appropriate way, no sealing of the connections to the lateral profiles will be required. In spite of this, should such a sealing be requested, it may be effected by means of the nora® 2-component TH joint sealing compound.
